The Marshall County Treasurer’s Office has temporary boat permits available to the public. By obtaining one of the temporary permits, it allows the owner to immediately get on the water. The boater will receive their decals and permanent boat certificate from Pratt.
The documents required from the boater consist of a proof of payment of sales tax paid if purchased from a Kansas dealer. If the boat is purchased from an individual, a bill of sale is required. If the boat is purchased from an out of state dealer and no sales tax was collected, the applicant will need to pay the sales tax first in our office.
General information concerning the boat is required such as year built, length of the boat, company that built the boat, hull ID number, hull material and similar information on the motor and trailer.
If there are numbers on the boat that you wish to use, those will need to be placed on the application. Pratt assigns new KA numbers, but does not provide them to the boater.
Our office will give the boater a copy of the application which serves as a temporary permit until the permanent certificate is sent from Pratt in approximately 2-3 weeks. The boat permit must be carried on board the boat at all times and the decals must be displayed on the side of the boat to be legal on the water.
